Employers are reassessing how they praise staff and helping individuals connect their work to a broader purpose, as they try to re-energise a rising number of employees who feel stuck in their jobs due to a weakening labour market.

Executive coaches and HR professionals say more disgruntled employees feel trapped because declining job vacancies mean there are fewer opportunities to switch roles and rising living costs have underscored the importance of staying in paid employment, resulting in less job switching.
