Minimum wage rise could force cafes to trade workers for QR codes

Cafes and restaurants are concerned they will be forced to cut staff shifts and bring in dreaded barcode menus if the Fair Work Commission increases award rates by more than 5 per cent this year.

Campbell Henderson, owner of The Winey Cow cafes on the Gold Coast and in Victoria, said he was already struggling to keep wages under 40 per cent of total costs and had been forced to reduce staffing levels to the minimum.
