Gatto-linked firm leaves $14m tax bill

A Mick Gatto-linked subcontractor backed by the CFMEU and contractors on major government jobs has defaulted on millions of dollars in taxes, the second time a company in the corporate group has left behind a large tax debt even as the group continues to win taxpayer-funded contracts.

The Taxation Office this week filed notice with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission that Victorian labour hire firm M Group Trades and Labour – which has been winning jobs on the Allan Labor government’s $26 billion North East Link project and major road upgrades – has failed to pay $13.7 million in tax.
