Former competition watchdog chief Graeme Samuel has slammed the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ signature training course as a box ticking exercise and says aspiring board members would be better off reading a single report by the prudential regulator and a chapter of the banking royal commission.
The veteran business leader and Monash University professor said he did not have “any time” for the AICD course and recommended the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority’s 2018 110-page report into the governance, culture and accountability at the Commonwealth Bank and chapter six of the Hayne royal commission into the banking sector instead.
