Despite finding the job ‘really hard’, Brian Schmidt, the only Nobel Laureate to head an Australian university, doesn’t care about being paid as much as his peers.
Walking through Kambri, the reinvigorated heart of Australian National University with its long, gracious avenue linking the campus to the city, I see photocopied black-and-white posters taped to noticeboards that suggest all is not well at ANU.
One is for a rally protesting against course cuts. Another is for a meeting for casual staff – or what’s left of them – to discuss their wellbeing.
