During his first five years leading the Commonwealth Bank, Matt Comyn earned credibility and respect, restoring the lender’s reputation after the royal commission and money laundering dramas, and supporting borrowers through the pandemic.

During his seventh year in charge, Comyn realised his position as chief executive of the country’s biggest bank had elevated his levels of credit. He decided it was time to spend some of it.
