Late last year, BlueScope boss Mark Vassella tapped Gretta Stephens on the shoulder and asked her if she would like a new title. As well as her position as chief executive of the steel maker’s New Zealand business, would she also like to become chief executive of climate change?

Auckland-based Stephens immediately said “yes”.
