Student visa hopefuls knocked back at record levels

International students hopeful for a visa to Australia are having their plans dashed at record rates as application approvals hit a historic low at the end of last year.

Just over 82 per cent of higher education visa applications were approved in the six months to December. That was down from 87.5 per cent in 2022-23, according to newly released government data.
