Schools chase the X-factor that gives them the edge

On a clear, crisp May night, some 600 girls gather on the grounds of Presbyterian Ladies’ College in Sydney’s inner west.
Some are dressed as rockets. Others as astronauts. Many tote handmade telescopes, built with the help of the school’s physicist-in-residence, Dr Stephanus Van Heerden.
