My employer refused to pay for my MBA – so I quit

When Anthony Justice asked BP to pay for his one-year, full-time MBA in France, the company refused. A year later, it promoted him and upped his salary.

It was a Monday morning, following a weekend spent fretting over his decision, when Anthony Justice walked into his boss’s office, resignation letter in one hand, a coffee in the other. “I was so nervous I was shaking and actually spilt my coffee,” he says.

A few weeks earlier, Justice had asked his company, oil and gas multinational BP, if it would consider paying for him to do an MBA. It had refused and so now here he was, handing in his resignation.
