Nine-year-olds’ literacy at standstill

One in four Australian boys are struggling to read at even basic levels by the time they reach year 4, but the pandemic did not set them back even further, an international test has found.
And while Australian children’s reading is at significantly lower levels than their peers in England, Hong Kong and Singapore, they outperform students in New Zealand.
