The lawyer of the future will not only provide legal advice but also be a business adviser who is at ease with technology and working alongside in-house teams, industry leaders say.

The shift, which may be hastened by a recession as clients look to get more bang for their buck, follows a decade in which the big four consulting firms launched into the legal sector and law firms such as MinterEllison pushed to increase their "consultant" offerings.
