Why it pays off having infrastructure in your portfolio

As inflation soars, a recurring theme is to invest in companies that provide essential products and services and can pass on price increases.

Superannuation and global pension funds can’t get enough of infrastructure. They are pouring money into infrastructure assets and triggering a wave of takeovers.

Unlisted infrastructure returns have consistently outperformed Australian shares since 2009, data from asset manager Invest Unlisted shows. Tellingly, those returns rose over the 2007-09 Global Financial Crisis and COVID-19 pandemic as sharemarkets tanked.
