After weeks of forcing down hopes of a federal budget tackling the rising cost of living, Treasurer Jim Chalmers has shown his hand.
It’s Labor’s first budget in nearly a decade, but in the lead-up to budget night, Dr Chalmers made clear it would be neither “flashy” nor “fancy”. It would be “solid, sensible and suited to the times”. A “bread and butter” budget.
