This could be the decade of the 50/50 portfolio

It’s been a fun tech-fuelled ride on equity markets but now’s the time to buy more bonds.

The 60/40 portfolio, a bellwether mix of 60 per cent global stocks and 40 per cent bonds, has been a foundation for many investors and advisers through the decades.

Those who have resisted the urge to tinker have been handsomely rewarded with buy-and-hold returns of 7.2 per cent annualised over the past 10 years, approximately doubling their money.
