Embedded networks are suddenly a hot topic in property media, although this column has been writing about it for almost two years.

In their most egregious form, they comprise infrastructure that has been installed in an apartment building, for free or cheaply, by a service provider in exchange for an exclusive contract that gives them a monopoly on the service provision.
