Children and spouses of blended families are being disinherited from any interest in the family home with little recourse to legal appeals or compensation in most of the nation’s jurisdictions because of a little-known legal anomaly.

Lawyers and financial advisers warn this is on the rise because parents of increasingly popular blended families are failing to amend their property titles and wills to take into account the “new” spouse and children after the remarriage.
