Alzheimer’s stole this rugby league great’s brain - and his family wealth
The lawyer son of rugby great, Bill Noonan, is running to raise money for Alzheimer’s research, while also tweaking his lifestyle to stay mentally fit for longer.
When rugby league player Bill Noonan died of Alzheimer’s at the age of 72 in 2021, he had his brain donated to science. The post-mortem indicated Noonan had chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a brain disorder thought to be caused by repeated head injuries.
Bill Noonan played rugby league for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Newtown Jets and New Zealand national team in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
