Why the productivity payoff from AI at work is so poor

The technology is ready. The problem is our workplace relations framework requires prior permission to use artificial intelligence.

Two major reports on artificial intelligence landed this past week: the Reserve Bank of Australia’s detailed survey of Australian firms and McKinsey’s global benchmark of AI adoption.

Together, they paint a consistent picture. Workers are increasingly using AI tools, firms are investing heavily, curiosity is high, and almost every organisation uses the technology somewhere.
