The leaders of healthcare start-ups selling compounded Ozempic and Mounjaro say the federal government’s ban on the replica drugs is a step too far and risks leaving tens of thousands of Australians without the medications they need.

Federal Health Minister Mark Butler decided to ban chemists from replicating the drugs after October 1 due to safety concerns, after the ABC’s Four Corners revealed patients of a NSW-based pharmacy had experienced severe side effects from injecting themselves with the replicas.
