Microsoft boss Satya Nadella says its multibillion-dollar investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure remains necessary, regardless of Chinese company DeepSeek’s claims to have trained a groundbreaking research model for about $8 million.

Microsoft will spend $US80 billion ($128 billion) on data centres to power cloud computing and its generative tool Copilot this financial year, despite investors raising concerns about the size of the investment during the company’s quarterly earnings call on Thursday.
