Meta settles Aussie Cambridge Analytica case for $50m
Meta has agreed to pay $50 million to settle a long-running legal battle with the Australian Information Commissioner, which will be distributed to thousands of Australians who were indirectly caught up in the 2018 Cambridge Analytica scandal.
The scandal erupted when a former employee revealed that UK-based consulting firm Cambridge Analytica had secretly harvested data from up to 87 million Facebook profiles, that was used to target political ads during the 2016 US presidential election and Brexit referendum.
