Labor laws risk double standard for gig workers: experts

Proposed laws introducing minimum pay and conditions for gig economy workers could create a double standard between independent contractors who use digital platforms to find work and those choosing more traditional methods.

Under Labor’s Closing Loophole Bill, an independent contractor on a digital platform would be covered – or deemed “employee-like” – if they receive pay at or below the rate of an employee performing comparable work.
