Force big tech to pay for AI training data: Senate committee

Big artificial intelligence companies would be forced to pay publishers, authors and artists for content used to train their bots, under new laws recommended by a Senate committee that accused global tech giants of stealing huge swaths of copyrighted material.

Following nine months of public hearings and submissions, the Senate committee into adopting artificial intelligence argued the government must step in to stop the “unprecedented theft of their work by multinational tech companies operating within Australia”.
