Key Points

  • My devices
Laptop, iPad (with keyboard), iPhone, AirPods, and a Garmin Forerunner watch.
  • My tech dos and don'ts
Do strive for inbox zero. Try to deal with emails the first time you read them.
Do get a keyboard for your iPad, and use it to answer text messages.
Do unsubscribe from unwanted marketing newsletters.
Do toggle iPhone across to black and white. It makes the screen less interesting to look at.
    Don't turn on notifications.
Don't retweet articles if you've only read the headline.
  • My tech guilty pleasure
When I'm running outdoors, I love podcasts. Dolly Parton's America, the Jolly Swagman podcast, Revisionist History, Economics Explained, Reply All, the Unforgiving60 and the 80,000 Hours podcast are just a few of my current favourites.
When I'm on the treadmill, I indulge in watching trashy action movies on Netflix. It's the only time I watch them, and it turns a dull activity into a fun one.

Andrew Leigh is a nerd. The Canberra-based Labor MP's CV alone suggests as much, but the excitable way he discusses his favourite podcasts really gives the game away.

"You can now listen to fabulous podcasts with Malcolm Gladwell or Tyler Cowen. I've loved the podcast Dolly Parton's America – it's a great window into the United States through one of the 20th and 21st Century's great rock stars. You can listen to The Economist, The New York Times – all of these sources are more accessible than ever before," Leigh says.
