NAB chief’s drinking a joke at staff Q&A

At the beginning of 2024, National Australia Bank approached its fork in the road. Ross McEwan had steadied the bank over the previous three and a bit years, and business banking chief Andrew Irvine was poised to take over.

Perhaps a reflection of McEwan’s so-called “superpower” (said to be asking the “obvious, simple question” in the face of complexity), NAB had an internal catchcry for the year ahead: “Less is more in ’24”.
