Abernethy’s Clime roasted by ex-CEO

Clime Investment Management founder and chairman John Abernethy isn’t as prominent a fund manager as he used to be. But his investment house, which gave Roger Montgomery and Michael Kodari their starts, still oversees portfolios worth $5 billion. And so, one wonders what red flags an eagle-eyed stock picker like him would pick from Clime’s own turnover.

It’s on its third CFO in 20 months, the second of which having resigned at the end of his probation, a fact the company failed to communicate promptly in what it admitted was a breach of the listing rules. Its head of risk and joint company secretary left last week due to a “reduction in business complexity”, while another company secretary left in May. It’s down two directors, both of whom resigned in April as a cost reduction. And its board member turned CEO Michael Baragwanath is “acting”, following the departure of his predecessor Annick Donat last month.
