Former ASIC chairman James Shipton returns to police jurisdiction

A sojourn to Oxford briefly interrupted an investigation into a recorded phone call.

Former Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman James Shipton has gone from being the country’s top corporate cop to having a few issues with the police himself.

He is under criminal investigation by Victoria Police over an allegedly illegal recording he made of a conversation between himself and then-deputy ASIC chair Karen Chester in April 2021.
