Budget housing provider Lifestyle Communities has suffered a dramatic setback for its business model after a tribunal ruled the exit fees it has been charging residents do not comply with the law.

While the case revolved around the situation of 80-odd residents at two of Lifestyle Communities’ Melbourne estates, the Victorian tribunal ruling will be closely watched by other providers in the sector.
