The corporate watchdog’s case against Mariner is shaping up for an old-style courtroom grilling of key witnesses to allegations the corporate raider, led by Darren Olney-Fraser , launched an unfunded takeover bid.

The Securities and Investments Commission alleges Mr Olney­Fraser, along with Mariner chairman Don Christie and former director Matthew Fletcher, breached their corporate duties when Mariner announced its intention to take over broker Austock in June 2012.
