NSW will ask the federal government to help cover the estimated $3 billion bill for the large-scale clean-up and long-term recovery plan for the Northern Rivers floods.
A day after leaked details from a flood inquiry indicated the state’s newly created emergency response structure was set for a major overhaul, the NSW government said it would ask the Commonwealth to back a major flood recovery and prevention program. This could include elements similar to the Grantham land swap program in 2012 to safeguard the flood-ravaged Queensland community.
