Flood criticism triggers overhaul of NSW disaster response

The NSW government could wind back an agency led by the state’s former rural fire boss Shane Fitzsimmons in a major overhaul of its disaster response triggered by failings in the aftermath of devastating floods.

Resilience NSW could have most of its responsibilities reallocated to existing departments and NSW Police could have a new deputy commissioner dedicated to emergency management, under recommendations in a review of the state’s emergency recovery response.
