Japan goes to the polls as Kishida vows to fix economy
TOKYO | Japan’s prime minister Fumio Kishida is expected to win a mandate on Monday to lead the country through its post-pandemic recovery but his ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is tipped to emerge from Sunday’s national election with its weakest majority in a decade.
Japan’s voters went to the polls on Sunday in an election dominated by concerns about rising inequality, economic stagnation, the coronavirus pandemic and regional security threats from China.
