Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party led by Fumio Kishida is expected to retain its grip on power following Sunday’s election, but that does not mean the voters are happy.

Japan has changed prime ministers almost as frequently as Australia in the past decade but its dominant political party has ruled virtually uninterrupted since 1955. That trend appears set to continue, with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and its smaller coalition partner, Komeito, set to safely win Sunday’s national election.
