As 2004 Australian Idol seventh-place finalist Ricki-Lee Coulter sang John Farnham’s You’re the Voice on Monday night, onlookers could have been forgiven for wondering if mining bosses had made a similar pitch to Minerals Council of Australia chief Tania Constable.

“You’re the voice try, and understand it. Make a noise and make it clear,” Coulter belted out to a packed audience in parliament’s Great Hall as the mains of chicken or lamb were whisked away.
