Industry and business groups are warning of job losses and a manufacturing slowdown if Anthony Albanese fails to convince Donald Trump to spare Australia’s $1 billion annual steel and aluminium exports from tariffs and a broader trade war.

The Prime Minister will use his first official phone call with Mr Trump on Tuesday to lobby the US president to exempt Australian metal exports in what the Opposition says is a critical test of Anthony Albanese’s clout with the new White House.
