The world isn’t waiting for Australia’s AI inertia

The world is not waiting for us to become comfortable with AI; the world has moved on and every week Australia, with its already dismal productivity performance, falls further behind.

Australia is a land of outliers. We have a taste for Vegemite, take the lettuce out of a Big Mac and, despite the mild abuse we suffered at the hands of President Donald Trump, have a level of disdain for the United States only exceeded by Sweden and, understandably, Mexico.

Australians travel to Japan, the US and Europe in their millions, yet are staunchly opposed to nuclear energy. The Chernobyl disaster in a then totalitarian state was almost 40 years ago, but Australian memories of it are as if it were yesterday.
