Student caps not for migration reasons, Senate hearing told
Caps on new international students are superfluous to the government meeting its net migration targets and needed only as an integrity and diversity measure and for more orderly allocation of places, a Senate inquiry heard.
However, evidence to the fourth day of hearings into plans to cap the number of overseas students at 270,000 next year made clear that none of the integrity issues rife among some vocational colleges would be countered by limiting student numbers.
