Senate President Scott Ryan to resign

Senate President Scott Ryan will quit federal Parliament this year, bringing forward his planned retirement to allow a replacement to be selected before Christmas.

Announcing the move to Senate colleagues in a statement on Friday afternoon, the Victorian Liberal said uncertainty about sittings of federal Parliament due to COVID-19 restrictions meant he needed to bring forward his plans to leave politics at next election.
