Australia is preparing to throw a lifeline to travellers still stuck in coronavirus lockdowns around the world, Foreign Minister Marise Payne has confirmed.

Thousands of Australians remain stranded amid the growing shutdown of international flights, including in countries in South America, North America and Asia.
