Public servants working from home are not absent or slacking off, the boss of the Department Employment and Workplace Relations insists, hitting back at claims officials responsible for new workplace laws have disconnected from their bosses.

Natalie James, the former Fair Work Ombudsman, said public servants in Industrial Relations Minister Tony Burke’s department were highly engaged with their duties and are entitled to work-life balance.
