Minority government looms but who’ll lead it, and for how long?

Heaven forbid, but Australians could be forced back to the polls if Dutton and Albanese end up with 75 seats apiece after crossbench negotiations.

When Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott were tied at 72 seats each after the 2010 election, it came down to a negotiation with the six crossbenchers in a bid to reach the magic majority of 76 seats needed to form government.

For the crossbench back then, it was an either/or choice.
