Australia is moving too slowly to decarbonise its electricity grid according to the Albanese government’s chief climate policy adviser who says this risks delaying emissions reduction efforts in other sectors and derailing net zero by 2050.

Climate Change Authority chairman and former NSW treasurer Matt Kean on Thursday released a long-awaited review identifying what the top six emitting sectors of the economy must do to achieve net zero, including the “mature, demonstrated and early stage” technologies that should be used.
