It’s delulu to think Gen Z speak will attract young voters

Anthony Albanese’s youthful turns of phrase represents the desperate, somewhat awkward political hunt that’s heating up as parties fight to kiss the Gen Z ring and win over young voters.

“They are delulu with no solulu, Mr Speaker.”

A day after Labor handed down its fourth budget, this was the prime minister’s message regarding the opposition. “Delulu” (meaning delusional) and “solulu” (meaning solution) are well-established terms in the catalogue of Gen Z-speak. They feature regularly in meme culture and sit prominently, alongside words such as “brat” and “mid”, in the popular vernacular.
