Labor’s Kim Carr retires, Libs sort out NSW factional mess
Veteran Labor senator and factional warrior Kim Carr has announced his retirement after losing the fight to stay in Parliament, in a move that may bring stability to the Victorian branch of the ALP.
Senator Carr, 66, announced his retirement on Sunday after 29 years in Parliament and after being unable to secure the support among the unions in his industrial Left faction. He will most likely be replaced by former trade unionist Linda White, 63.
