Scuttling a major business simplification reform will stifle data productivity, fraud and transparency efforts and leave firms and consumers to pay higher costs, industry participants say.

The Albanese government on Monday cancelled the nearly $500 million consolidation of the nation’s main business information base, after receiving a report advising the scheme was costing $12 million a month and was on track to cost $2.6 billion.
