The small mining town of Denman, in the NSW Hunter Valley, was identified as the epicentre of a 4.8 magnitude earthquake felt across a large part of the state on Friday.

The town is about 40 kilometres by road from the Liddell power station, a spot nominated by the federal Coalition as a potential site for a nuclear power plant.
