‘High risk, high return’: Chief scientist sceptical on $1b quantum deal

The country’s top scientific adviser warned federal officials she was highly sceptical about US-based company PsiQuantum’s ability to deliver on its promise to build a world-leading super computer in Australia, before the Albanese government signed up to a $1 billion deal backing the plan.

Chief Scientist Cathy Foley was eventually convinced PsiQuantum could deliver the technology as proposed, but it took many months, internal government documents reveal.
