Morrison ‘disciplined’ on day two of the campaign

--Day two of the election campaign was dominated by the unemployment rate and the cash rate - two figures Anthony Albanese didn’t know when quizzed during a campaign press conference.

--Finance Minister, Simon Birmingham, issued a statement saying the gaffe was further proof Labor couldn’t be trusted with the economy.

--The opposition leader said he should have been able to rattle off the correct unemployment rate and that he’ll own up to any mistakes he makes. While Labor MP Tanya Plibersek said election campaigns ‘aren’t a memory test.’

--Scott Morrison spent the day in the seat of Gilmore, a must-win marginal electorate on the NSW South Coast, where he faced questions about his handling of the Black Summer bushfires and pledged $40 million to upgrade roads in the region.

--Applications for postal voting are now open and Australians subject to COVID-19 isolation orders on the day of the federal election will be able to vote by telephone.

--There were 41,800 cases of COVID-19 reported around the country on Monday. A further five people died from the virus.
