From Jakarta deals to Vatican kneels, Albanese crafts his statesman act

The PM is looking relaxed and comfortable in the face of a demoralised opposition. But is this as good as it gets for Labor?

Anthony Albanese will have a lot to give thanks for when he attends Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration mass in Rome on Sunday.

The extent of Labor’s political dominance is still sinking in among his many parliamentary colleagues, old and new. While Albanese is careful to profess the need for humility, his confidence shows in his relaxed tone as he expresses the determination to make Labor “the natural party of government”.
